Homme

Homme Youth & Family Programs is our flagship program, originally opening in 1882 when Pastor E.J. Homme opened a home for orphaned children in Wittenberg, Wisconsin. These roots of care have served as the blueprint for all LSS services for the past 140 years.

Today, Homme’s residential treatment center continues to welcome and serve male youth and adolescents who are traumatized, struggling or are in danger of entering the adult criminal justice system. We welcome them with care, compassion and a promise to help them change their lives, and treat all troubled youth who walk through our doors as infinitely valuable individuals.

Services

Our nationally known treatment program serves adolescents dealing with issues of sexual perpetration, delinquency, victimization, alcohol and drug abuse, cognitive behavioral issues or dual diagnosis, and a need for independent living skill building.

Homme Youth and Family Programs’ campus rests on more than 200 acres of woods, hills, streams and ponds in Wittenberg, which is located in Shawano County in central Wisconsin. Here, we value family involvement and offer on-campus housing and transportation assistance for family visits.

The admissions process begins with a referral and a pre-placement interview which is essential to determining how an individualized treatment program can meet the needs of each youth.

Our trauma-informed treatment approach, combined with our peaceful campus, helps children and their families regain control of their lives and begin to recover from the traumas and troubles of the past. We know there’s a way to reach every youth in our care, no matter how many protective walls they build around their thoughts and emotions. Our highly trained staff members have the empathy and patience to find the irresistible invitation that will help each child open up, start communicating and begin to trust, leading to hope and healing.

Why Homme

Trusting Homme for treatment services is the right choice for many reasons. Our deep history in youth services and excellent programming help to turn lives around and heal families in our care. We strive to wrap ourselves around the youth and family we serve to enable the family to make healthy choices.

The professionals at Homme serve adolescent males, ages 10 to 17, and in rare cases up to age 21. Homme residents who are age 18 and older must be placed on a juvenile court order.

Our staff help residents learn to cope with and recover from a variety of issues, including:

  • History of trauma
  • Sexual perpetration
  • Sexually reactive behavior
  • Alcohol and drug abuse (not primary diagnosis)
  • Delinquency
  • Victimization
  • Cognitive disabilities
  • Dual diagnoses

“We would like to let you all know we really appreciate everything. Our stay at Homme really felt like home. We were comfortable and the staff was awesome. My son is making progress and I am very happy with that. Thanks to the staff for all your hard work in working with our son.”
