What is Superior Futures for Youth?

LSS Superior Futures for Youth program (SFFY) serves youth ages 12-24 and, when appropriate, their families.

 

SFFY is designed to assist young people who are at risk of running away or facing homelessness by providing resources to address their immediate needs, and support as they build toward lasting safety and stability.

 

The focus of SFFY is to assist young people in the achievement of their self-determined goals.

SFFY covers the following counties in
Upper Michigan:

Outreach

Outreach to youth and entities that young people are connected with such as schools, clubs, churches, community groups, and counseling centers is a primary focus of the LSS Superior Futures for Youth initiative.

Through program education, active engagement and partnership with local agencies, youth can access critical supports for housing crises.

Basic Care Center (BCC)

The BCC addresses the immediate needs of at-risk youth. We offer resource connections for food, clothing, medical care, counseling, stable housing, education and employment.

When appropriate, BCC staff work with youth and their families to promote family preservation, focusing on conflict resolution and stabilization.

When necessary, BCC staff work with youth to identify alternative safe housing. The program incorporates the Positive Youth Development approach, which focuses on giving young people the chance to build skills and thrive within their own communities.

Transitional Living Program (TLP)

TLP provides strong resource support system to older youth experiencinga housing crisis. Designed for individuals 17-24, Case Managers work with at-risk youth to develop a crisis plan, and a plan to transition to self-sufficiency.

Services include assistance in helping young people find stable housing, skill-building, and resources for employment, education, and medical care--whatever they need to take their next step.

Incorporating a trauma-informed care approach, our strategies focus on skill-building, leadership and community involvement.
