Family Information

Kristopher Paul Bjoin & Alison Elizabeth Bjoin
Years Married: 4
Children: No children
Religion: Lutheran/ELCA Synod

Child Care Plans: Both Kristopher and Alison will take a leave of absence from work after the initial placement. Alison will take as much time off as possible. Once we both return to work, we plan to enroll our child at a licensed daycare center run by Lutheran Social Services. The daycare is located in our church and less than one mile from our home and Alison’s place of work. Kris’ mother is also able to provide childcare in her home one day per week, so we may use a combination of professional daycare and time with Grandma.

Pets: None currently

Ethnicity: Kristopher’s ethnicity is Norwegian; Alison is predominantly German on her father’s side and English and Croatian on her mother’s side.

Family Traditions

Holidays: We spend holidays, like Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter, with our extended families. Holidays usually involve food, and Alison has stepped up to handle hosting and cooking for her side of the family the last few years.

Vacations: We love to travel and have made trips across the US and to other countries. In the summer, we also try to get away and make some local trips, like visiting Door County or staying with family/friends in Northern Wisconsin. We frequently travel with our family, and when we do, everyone’s included!
Family Gatherings: Because we live in the same town Kris grew up in, we see his family frequently. We get together for dinner, to see movies, or celebrate birthdays. Alison’s family is about three hours away. We try to make the trip or host her family at our home once every couple of months.

Home/Neighborhood/Community

City Type: Metro

Years lived here: Kris has lived in Janesville his entire life; Alison moved to Janesville 12 years ago for her job. We just purchased a new home and have lived in the new house less than a year.

Describe the community/neighborhood: Our home is a three-bedroom, multi-level style house, located in the City of Janesville, a small urban community of about 60,000 people. The house, built in 1964, is part of a well-established city neighborhood that has large trees and features parks, athletic fields, paved walking and bike trails, and a public wading pool for children all within a short walk’s distance. Alison’s work, the daycare we plan to use, the elementary school our child will attend, and our church are all just a few blocks away from our house.

Birthparent Letter

Dear Birth Parents,

Our names are Kristopher and Alison. Thank you for reading our letter. We are grateful you are considering open adoption and want to commend you on your strength and courage.

We have been partners in marriage and best friends for four years. We seemed to know from the start that we wanted to be parents. Problems with infertility caused us to think about options for building our family. We found Lutheran Social Services through our church. The day our Social Worker called to say we had been selected to start the process was a very exciting and memorable one for us both!

We live in Janesville, Wisconsin. Kris owns and operates a family business. Alison is the principal at one of the two high schools in town.

Our home is located in a city neighborhood that has large trees and features parks, athletic fields, paved walking and bike trails, and a public wading pool for children all within a short walk’s distance. Alison’s work, the daycare we plan to use, the elementary school our child will attend, and our church are all just a few blocks away from our house.

We are both very active people. Kris loves all things athletic. He plays hockey, volleyball, and softball. He also rock climbs, hunts and fishes, and flies a small two-passenger plane. Alison loves to garden, read, cook and bake, and play piano. Together, we love to kayak, travel, watch movies, and try new restaurants.

We think the reason we “work” as a couple is that we share the same values. We value our family, friends, and faith. We believe in hard work, learning something new every day, and making time for fun. We have been blessed with a loving marriage, a nice home, a good education, and financial resources. We hope to share our values, beliefs, and blessings with a child.

We would love to learn more about the hopes and dreams you have for your child and welcome the opportunity to share in your journey.

Sincerely,

Kris and Alison
