Home/Neighborhood/Community

City Type: Suburb

Years lived here: 2.5

Describe the neighborhood: Elm Grove is a safe, friendly community that has a small town feel but has all of the conveniences of modern living, with abundant nearby grocery and shopping centers. There is a large local park that has a pool, walking trails, playground and sledding hill. We go to the library and look forward to taking our child to the weekly play groups held there. We are only 10 miles from the heart of downtown Milwaukee so we’d like to take frequent day trips there to visit the museums and the lakefront.

Family Traditions

Holidays:

*The actual day of holidays are spent with Andy’s family since they live 1 ½ hours away and then we get together the weekend before with Amanda’s family since they live close by. Thanksgiving is spent at an aunt’s house with several generations of family along with plenty of food and football watching. Christmas is at another aunt’s home with a ‘secret Santa’ name exchange for gifts and a sit down dinner.

*At Christmas with Amanda’s family we sing carols and switch up the menu each year to a different theme, from Italian to Mexican to our traditional Polish foods. We are in charge of contributing dessert and bring plenty of gifts for each family member to open.

*We started hosting Mother’s Day at our house a few years ago and have both sides of our family over for a cookout. Our sisters each had their first child in the past two years so it has become even more of a special holiday. We also host Thanksgiving with a traditional turkey and all the trimmings. We both enjoy cooking and it’s only about ten people so it’s not too stressful!

*On July 4th we enjoy walking to the local village park for the annual fireworks show.

Vacations:

*We have been to 30 of the 50 states and plan to visit them all in the next decade or so. Our favorite place so far has been Hawaii because of the weather and breathtaking scenery and we’ve been to northern California 4 times because we have close friends that live there that we can visit.

*Wisconsin has a lot to offer, especially when the weather is nice, so we enjoy weekend trips to places like Devils Lake, Madison and Eagle River.

*We have been to Caribbean all-inclusive destinations four times and they have always been a mix of fun and relaxation. We got married at a resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, with about 30 of our closest friends and family.

Family Gatherings:

*Annual Tomato Fest at Andy’s parent’s house where everyone who has a tomato garden brings an entry and they are voted for as to who has the best one. A small trophy is even awarded!

*We are close to both sides of our family and enjoy getting together to watch Packer games or have game nights, with Uno and Heads Up being two of our favorite games.

Birthparent Letter

Hello!

Thank you for checking out our online profile. We are Amanda and Andy and we are excited to build our family through adoption with Lutheran Social Services.

We came to adoption after initial unsuccessful fertility treatments and didn’t want to continue down that path. To us, a family is such a mix of personalities and looks regardless of biology, and Andy has three cousins who are adopted, so it was a fairly easy choice for us.

On an average weekend you will find us at home, cooking or playing Wii while listening to a variety of music, after spending the day hiking, walking in our neighborhood or doing some yard work. In the summer we have a vegetable garden, in the fall we have a lot of leaves to rake because we have ten mature trees on our half acre lot, and in the winter there is always a chance of snowfall to shovel!

During the week Andy stays busy with work at a commercial construction company. His main office is nearby but he is often on site at projects ranging from healthcare facilities to sports arenas. Amanda volunteers at an office, keeps up with much of the housework, and spends time with her young nephew giving her sister and brother-in-law a break!

Our wish for our child is to provide them with plenty of love and encouragement through all of the ups and downs of life. We have a nice home, friendly neighbors and a close knit family on both sides so the child will have plenty of people to support and love them!

We would like to be able to remain in contact with the birth parents in order to provide a well-rounded life for the child. We understand that it may be difficult at times to see each other in person but texts and emails with photos and updates are the least we can do. We always want the child to know that they were given the best possible opportunities by their families, starting even from before their birth.

Thank you again for taking the time to learn about us and we hope that you find the right family for you and your child!
