Birthparent Letter

Greetings from a small town,

We are excited to have the opportunity to be a part of this journey. Our names are Alden and Nikki and we have been married since August of 2006. My husband and I enjoy each other’s company while watching movies and TV shows. We go for walks around town and to the park. We also go for an occasional bike ride or a drive to discover new roads we've never gone down before. We have many family gatherings that include picnics, barbecues, birthday parties, and holidays. Alden's family enjoys camping, fishing, and hunting and would love more children to come along for the fun! Our choice to parent through adoption currently stems from an inability to conceive, however, adoption has always been an option we considered to help build our family. My mother made an adoption plan for my brother many years ago and as a result I witnessed the after effects of the closed adoption practice. The lack of information available to myself in regards to my brother has haunted me for as long as I can remember. I can't imagine his feelings when he was denied his own history. We were pleased to learn that when considering an adoption plan for their child, birthparents are given the option of continued contact. This contact provides the child with much needed information regarding their family history and heritage. We are excited about the openness of adoption today and look forward to expanding our family.
