Reflection for the Week of March 17, 2008

Scripture:

“The customer always complains that the price is too high, but then goes off and brags about the bargain he got.”  (Proverbs 20:14)

Reflection:

There is something very human about complaining.  We all do it.  But, it is demoralizing and immobilizing when we get caught up in cycles of destructive complaining.  I am deeply appreciative of people who interrupt the cycle of complaining, and point us to possibilities, opportunities, and constructive ways of responding to life’s difficulties and challenges.

Prayer:

God of promises and possibilities:  There are many things we don’t understand.  There is so much injustice, suffering, and deep need all around us.  We sometimes get stuck in cycles of endless complaining.  Help us to hold on to your promises and to always be alert for possibilities and opportunities for healing.
