Reflection for the Week of December 24, 2007

Scripture:

“Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes not me, but the one who sent me.  (Mark 9:37)

Reflection:

When I served as a parish pastor many years ago in South Dakota, parishioners said: “Stop by and see us anytime.”  I took them at their word.  Even in the midst of their busy, daily activities, they always welcomed me.  Perhaps Jesus is looking for a similar response.  Anytime is a good time to welcome him who is called Emmanuel, which means God is with us.

Prayer:

God, we sometimes think of you as hidden in the vast recesses of time and space.  We marvel that you visit us, at the deep roots of life, with joy, love, peace, and good will.
