Refugee & Immigrant Services
LSS provides case management services, job placement and sponsorship to refugees. Sponsors of refugees agree to locate and furnish housing, meet and welcome the refugees, supply food and clothing for a short period of time, help the refugee family to sign-up for schools and other community services, and educate the refugees about American culture and customs. English and employment are two main focuses for this program.
In the past, LSS has resettled refugee individuals and families from Afghanistan, Bosnia, Liberia, Somalia, Burma and many other countries.

Woman's Empowerment
A program to help refugee women learn how to better adjust in a new society. The program holds workshops on parenting, birth control, housekeeping, health, and more. The program also has a weaving co-op group called "United Thread", in which the women do Karen weaving and sell their products. The goal of the Women's Empowerment program is to train women who are more educated and have them become mentors for others that are new in refugee communities.

Vocational English as a Second Language (VESL)
A program designed to help newly arrived refugees learn basic English and help them become better prepared for employment. There are two types of classes available to students: ESL and Job Skills. LSS enrolls all newly arrived refugees through our program, and also accepts referrals to serve clients from other Volunteer Agencies (VOLAGs). LSS also recruits volunteers to do individual tutoring at clients' homes.
