Self-directed Supports

Through Self-Directed Supports, you or your family member can choose the staff who work directly with them. LSS can support this by being the employer of record also called co-employment. This service allows people to utilize the staff of their choice and manage the day-to-day scheduling of their services while LSS oversees payroll functions, help you learn how to manage staff, and guide you in directing your staff. 

The client will have the ability to choose how involved they want to be and to decide when they need support from LSS. It is a wonderful opportunity for them to control their supports and have professional assistance and guidance in doing so.

A synopsis of how LSS assists with self-directed supports:

• LSS will hire the support staff with the client and will perform all common law employer functions including: processing necessary paperwork, running background checks and other required pre-employment testing, completing necessary eligibility and tax paperwork, issuing paychecks based on approved time records, withholding appropriate taxes, providing worker's compensation insurance, and benefit management for qualifying employees.
• LSS will negotiate with the individual on co-sharing the managing employer duties, i.e. timesheet approval or performance reviews.
• Employees through the program will be required to undergo the same hiring requirements of all LSS employees.
• LSS will provide initial training for the individual on the hiring process and their role.
• LSS will provide initial training for the employee regarding expectations as a LSS employee. The individual will be required to provide training on specific service the employee is to provide.
• LSS will report spending to the individual and the Care Management Organization monthly.
• It is the responsibility of the individual to provide an emergency back up plan for staffing. LSS will not provide emergency staffing.
