Become a Volunteer

 
Along with donations, the Refugee and Immigrant Services program also appreciates the gift of time.  There are numerous volunteer opportunities for you or your church group to assist refugees in English acquisition, transportation, or community orientation.  Please see the following volunteer descriptions and volunteer application.
   
 

Volunteer Position Descriptions:
 

 
English as a Second Language tutor
Assist refugees in improving their English comprehension, speaking and writing skills.
 

Interpreters and Translators
Volunteers fluent in English and Thai, Burmese, Russian, Turkish, Somali, may assist refugees to effectively communicate with Refugee Services Staff, community service providers, medical care providers, and co-sponsors.
 

Basis Finance tutor
Teach refugees finance skills including currency, basic math, budgeting, writing checks, banking, etc..
 
Mentors
Befriend a refugee individual or family and help them adjust to life in the United States.  The goal is to provide them with necessary information and orientation to their community as well as companionship.
 
Homework Helper
Assist refugee children with their homework since many of them have not received good education in refugee camps.
