Refugee Resettlement
Resettlement is the primary activity in the Refugee & Immigrant Services Program.  Through this program, LSS staff ensures that newly arrived refugees are provided the basic necessities as outlined by the Department of State operational guidance.  LSS case managers work with the refugee clients, anchor relatives and co-sponsors to provide information and support to promote self-sufficiency.

Family Reunification is one component of Resettlement and LSS staff work with current clients, past clients, as well as referrals to fill out paperwork to help families reunite in Wisconsin.  For assistance with family reunification please call (414) 281-4400 and ask for a Refugee Resettlement case manager.

Refugee Co-Sponsorship Program
Established community groups, religious congregations of any denomination, or service organizations may participate in welcoming refugees with no local family to their community.  Groups with eight to twelve volunteers form a Refugee Co-sponsorship Task Force whose mission is to mentor a refugee family towards self-sufficiency as soon as possible.  Co-sponsorship involves setting up an apartment, transportation to appointments, school enrollment, job search, cultural orientation, emotional support and/or financial support.  The refugee services staff provides orientation, training, cultural information and on-going support.  Please click here to learn more.

Social Services Program
Long-term case management on a needed basis is provided for refugees resettled through our program.  Refugees can receive the services up to five years from their arrival date.
