Serving Upper Michigan:  Marquette, Alger, Delta, Dickinson, and Iron Counties

Voices for Youth is dedicated to helping young adults between the ages of 10 and 21, who are without a home or who are facing losing their housing. Services at VFY are free of charge and are available 24-hours a day, 7 days a week.  Services vary by location/county. 

Voices for Youth encompasses Street Outreach Programs as well as Supportive and Transitional Living Programs that encourage self-sufficiency in our participants by using a positive development approach, providing leadership opportunities, developing soft and hard life skills, and encouraging high levels of community involvement.  In addition, VFY strives to reunite young people with their parents or relatives by providing mediation or counseling. Other services include food, clothing, housing, case management, life skill training, non-residential services, educational services, outreach, transportation, advocacy, after care and referrals. Our overall goal is to help the youth and young adults in our area become independent, productive citizens.

Voices for Youth offers a variety of resources for youth who are homeless, including the following:

  • School Aged Participants - Keeping in communication with schools homeless liaisons, guidance counselors and concerned community entities, we are able to implement primary prevention through education and secondary prevention,and intervention through case management.
    • Case management often includes monitoring for further problems and offering additional counseling services for youth and their families.
  • Transitional Living Program
  • Supportive Housing Program
  • Life Skills: G.E.D. Study Group / Activity Group
  • Apprenticeship Program
  • Parenting Young Adults Groups and One-on-One Support
  • Youth Advisory Board
  • Street Outreach Services

VFY's Rural Street Outreach Program will provide street based prevention, outreach and education, 24 hour crisis intervention, access to individual and family counseling and treatment, emergency food, clothing, individual assessments, information and referrals, and follow-up support to 10-21 year olds in Marquette, Alger, Delta, Dickinson, and Iron counties in Michigan's rural Upper Peninsula.

Street Outreach Workers will establish and build relationships with youth in an effort to help them leave the streets or assist youth in accessing safe and appropriate living situations by connecting them to VFY's other Supportive and Transitional Living Programs or other services and referrals with the all-encompassing goal of the program being to identify and assist as many youth as possible.
