National Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week is November 11 – 17, 2012. To recognize the efforts by local agencies that assist the homeless of the Chippewa Valley, a Hunger and Homeless task force representing various organizations in the Eau Claire area will present a special day of awareness and concert on Monday, November 12th.
The event will be held at Valleybrook Church, 412 S. Barstow St., downtown Eau Claire. It kicks off with an agency fair where attendees can learn about participating organizations’ services and volunteer opportunities from 5 – 6 pm, followed by a program, concert and video presentation from 6 – 7:30 pm. The concert will feature Matt and Suzie K., Tom McCarty, Eau Claire County administrator, and will also give a brief talk regarding the positive and collaborative efforts by local agencies to alleviate hunger and homelessness in the community. All events are free and open to the public.
In addition, organizations that assist the homeless and disenfranchised in the community will hold open houses and tours from 1 - 4 pm earlier that day. The public is invited to visit and tour the facilities of their choice. Refer to the list below for a list of participating organizations. The staff at The Community Table, 320 Putnam St., which serves daily meals to individuals who need a hot and healthy meal, invites those who plan to tour the facilities to start the day with lunch served from 11:30 am to 1 pm. For planning purposes, those interested in eating lunch should advise Rachel Keniston at Rachel@thecommunitytable.org by November 9th.
As a partner in assisting us in combating homelessness in our community, we are indebted to the generous contributions of the Faith community in the Eau Claire area. Whether cash donations, food and clothing contributions or offering your time and talent as volunteers, your support of our mission of aiding the homeless and hungry is appreciated.
